It opens with a gentle solo clarinet, an ambient piece that slowly transforms into rhythm and ends in dance.
Music is usually a way to express an emotion. Here I try it the other way round and see whether sound can change one. Tension and release, joy and melancholy are not opposites but points on one continuum.
The set is also my travel diary: the sounds of places and people I meet on my way, playing their instruments. The Izera Mountains, Brandenburg, Brazil, the woods near Warsaw. Miri Amba, Ayani Soluna, Mateusz Adamczyk, Isaías Lautaro Guerra.

Since 2018 I write music for design films: short portraits of designers, films about furniture and materials, and films made for museum exhibitions. For the Creative Industries Fund NL alone I have scored over a hundred portraits of young designers since 2020.

Film
Music for feature films, documentaries and animation, since 2012.
Film music is a process I really enjoy: talking with the director, the research, choosing the instruments, the musical language, the players and the way we record. It also means letting go, not getting attached to my own compositions, because the film as a whole comes first.

About
Vova Antoniv, also known as Volodymyr Antoniv in Lviv and Włodek Antoniv in Warsaw. I'm a clarinetist and composer, living between Brandenburg, the Izera Mountains and Brazil. I studied clarinet in Lviv and Warsaw and film scoring in Łódź. What I play or create depends on where I am and where my focus is at the moment: sometimes it is a night in a forest that ends in techno, sometimes a museum and a piano with felt hammers, sometimes a film, and sometimes medicine music with SOMYAR, from meditation to dance. I play clarinet, piano and guitar, and I also explore traditional wind and percussion instruments that I use in my performances, together with voice, electronics and my own field recordings. I write and produce songs, and build some of my own instruments and software.
